Female members and guests of Alyth Bowling & Tennis Club will be the first to benefit from the new Community Projects Fund established by Alyth Development Trust.
ADT has awarded £2,000 from the Fund to be invested in a £3,500 upgrade of the ladies toilets at the Club’s Albert Street premises. The project will bring the toilets up to date and make them safer and more environmentally-friendly for females of all ages and also help those with minor disabilities.
Club secretary Eleanor Grant (pictured above) explained that the works, due to be completed by the end of October, will see a complete refurbishment of the toilets, with new fixtures and fittings, energy-efficient lighting, and anti-slip flooring installed.
“This is much needed, as it’s been quite a few years since we could afford any work on the toilets. We upgraded the men’s toilets a couple of years ago, but they needed work done ahead of the ladies toilets. We’re delighted to be getting the grant from ADT as otherwise the project wouldn’t have been able to go ahead this year.
The Club has around 30 adult female members and many juniors, and has seen membership – both female and male – increasing steadily since a marketing drive started earlier this year. The junior section, in particular, has been able to travel to compete against other clubs as well as having regular sessions at Albert Street.
A total of six projects are to be awarded grants under the first round of the ADT Community Projects Fund – look out for announcements of the other five shortly. The Fund is now open for applications for the second round of funding with a deadline of 31 October.
